CURRICULUM VITAE

Guillaume VARUPENNE was born in November 13th, 1985 ; he began his musical studies with euphonium until he obtained his master ( 2004 ) in Lyon Conservatory ( CNSM) with Mel Culbertson as professor.During the years 2003-2005 he studied trombone and bass trombone and become bass trombone solo in Paris Opera Orchestra in 2006, a position he held until now.

Since then, he played with the greatest French Orchestra ( paris orchestra, french radio orchestra, etc) under the direction of the greatest conductors of our time ( Esa- Pekka Salonen, P.Boulez, S.Bychkov, G. Dudamel, P.Jordan, C.Von Dohnanyi, S.Ozawa, S.Malki etc.) and participated in french music festival with various orchestra as well as national and international trombone festival ( aix en provence festival, ITF, chaise dieu, radio france).

He also graduated some International price as well as :

-1st price in « Spedidam » French National Trombone/Bass Trombone competition ( 2010 ),

-2nd price in Jeju International Brass competition in bass trombone ( Korea, 2014 )

-4th price in Intermusica International winds competition in Austria ( 2014 ),

-1st prize with excellent nomination in the "Online International Music Vivaldi Competition". ( England, 2023 )online))

-3rd prize Virtuoso International Music Award ( England 2023)online))
-3rd prize, "International Artist Competition" (Austria, 2023) online))
-Grand prize in New York Classical Music Competition ( USA 2023, online)) -1st prize in BTHVN Wien Music Competition ( Austria 2023) online))

Guillaume VARUPENNE was also Trombone professor in paris conservatory 13th arr. ( 2013-2018) and was assistant professor in paris CNSMDP (2011-2014).

Guillaume VARUPENNE plays on Bach 50 lacquered Bass trombone with Hagmann Valves and Wedge 114xd mouthpiece.

Bass trombone audition experience :

-Invited in San Francisco Symphony ( 2022 ), Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra
( 2017 ), New York Philharmonic, Zurich Tonhalle and Opera, Basel Symphony, Munich Radio Orchestra, Kyushu Symphony, DSO Berlin, Gewandhaus Orchestra, French Radio Philharmonic, Kyushu Symphony.

-Attempt the Semi-Finale in San Francisco Symphony ( 2022 ), New york Philharmonic ( 2013 ), Tonhalle Zurich ( 2011 )

-Finalist in The French Radio Orchestra ( 2006 ), Paris Opera ( 2006- winner) and The Kyushu Symphony ( 2015-no winner ).

Beside his musical activities in Paris Opera as Bass and Contrabass Trombone Solo, Guillaume Varupenne is also owner of a 500h diploma of Yoga Vinyasa and fervent practitioner of this art .
